Stick with 10mm, or can I use 15mm?

I need to change and move the position of a bedroom radiator. It's going from an internal wall, around the corner, to an external bay. It'll probably require no more than 8m of pipework. The system is 10mm microbore, which I would have to buy if I'm going to keep the same. However, I have 15mm...

    Terminating SWA Cat5e?

Thanks for the replies. I know the ultimate termination type is personal preference; my primary query was over how to handle the armour - whether it needed earthing and how to terminate it and how that may, or may not, effect what I use to connect it to CCTV/switch. For example, an inline IDC...

    Terminating SWA Cat5e?

I've just laid some SWA Cat5e from the cupboard at the front of my house to the detached garage at the rear for a PoE IP CCTV camera. I'm now looking for options on how to terminate it. I'm thinking the last leg, either end, should be via a patch lead. I was wondering what my options would...

Fernox TF-1: leaking at drain valve

My TF1 is leaking and upon inspection it appeared to be coming from where the metal drain valve screws onto the plastic body. There's somewhere to place a spanner, so I decided to tighten it a little, but it still leaked. So I decided to remove it, clean and check for possibe causes. After...

    Another bathroom fan query.

The current fan in my bath/shower room (no toilet, with opening window) isn't up to the job. We are a family of five and the shower gets used for prolonged periods. Even with door all but closed and window open, condensation is an issue throughout the house and especially in the bathroom. The...

Forgot to use knot sealer or primer.

This stuff? http://www.diy.com/nav/decor/paint-woodcare/primers-undercoats/sealer_primers___undercoats/Zinsser-Bin-Shellac-Base-Primer-Sealer-White-1L-11517594?fl=1 Is it applied to the whole door, or just dabbed over the individual knots?

Forgot to use knot sealer or primer.

I wasn't sure knot sealer would work on top of undercoat; I thought it had to be applied directly to the bare, unpainted, knots?

Forgot to use knot sealer or primer.

Stupid, I know. It's a bare, pine door to which I applied one coat of undercoat (I didn't have any primer to hand, but lots of undercoat). It was my intention to apply a second coat, then gloss, but after the first undercoat dried I noticed the knots. Should I just continue as...

Power to detached garage when no spare way in house CU?

Sorry to bump, but I'd like to know if this is work I can legally do, or do I need to get someone in? I was going to connect this cable to a metal clad, 2 gang, double pole socket - but then I found the splits in the outer insulation. I'm assuming simply wrapping it in insulating tape would...

Power to detached garage when no spare way in house CU?

I guess this means the garage consumer unit my father bought on my behalf can be returned to him. :D Thanks for all your help John and others. Edit: I've just been inspecting the cable in the garage and it looks like it needs stripping back to before the break in insulation. What would...

Power to detached garage when no spare way in house CU?

The garage cable is marked as 2x2.5mm + 1.5mm. So, it looks like a plan could be: * Upgrade MCB to 20A. * Connect garage cable (2.5 T+E) to socket underneath CU. * Cable into garage feeds 2 or 3 double sockets. (Radial circuit). * FCU off one of the sockets for lights. Oh, I didn't...

Power to detached garage when no spare way in house CU?

Giving it some more thought, I do actually need a socket in that cupboard to power my telephone and BT Home Hub which sit above it. That socket really needs to be added to the downstairs ring, like suggested, freeing up a MCB for the garage.

Power to detached garage when no spare way in house CU?

I think that might be a 'left-over' from when the rewire was being performed. The house electrics were deactivated and he installed one socket from which all power came for tools, etc. When I was taking the photo it did occur to me that it could be better utilised now the rewire is complete...
