Alarm, you are a star. I didn't realise the chime facility worked that way. Thank you very much for your help, you were spot on. Paul

    Accenta Optima

Hi. I have an Accenta / Optima G4 burglar alarm fitted about 5 years ago. The other morning I was woken by a false alarm (first one I have had I think) with zones 3 and 5 lit on the LED keypad. I reset the alarm and it all cleared. The problem is that now, with the alarm off, if I walk into...

    Gas Fire & Chimney Cowl

Hi. My brother has reciently moved house and in the main living room (a through lounge) there is fitted a glass fronted coal effect gas fire. The fire works fine and it may not be a problem at all, but there is no cowl fitted to the top of the chimney stack. The chimney stack itself is the...

    3-way switching without intermediate

Hi, I have had no luck finding a 3-gang intermediate light switch and don't want to use a grid arrangement ( unless you can get 3-way into a single size backbox). I have read that it is possable to use a DPCO relay as an 'intermediate' switch, but not been able to find a diagram anywhere...

    Shower Pump

Thanks for all your replies. The pump is 22mm in and out and I don't know if it is positive or negative, although I would assume negative. Is there any way I could fit the pump in the loft although the cold water tank is only raised about 6 inches above the joists? pixey

    Shower Pump

Hi, I have a mains fed electric shower in an upstairs shower room that often won't work due to low pressure. It is a problem in the area that I live in. My question is: I have a Stuart Turner Monsoon 1.5 bar twin pump sitting in the garage unused. Can I take a seperate outlet off my cold water...

    Porch Canopy

Not sure that they will do the job now. I thought that you would be able to drill a hole, say 100mm into the block, place the expansion plug all the way in, 100mm, and then use 150mm bolt to fix through the 3x2. I have looked on the Fischer web site and it says that the max depth is 40mm, the...

    Porch Canopy

Thanks Woody, I have not had much luck finding anything that looks long enough to be substantial so I have looked at some expansion plugs. I have found these on the screwfix website...

Does anyone know where I can get M10 expansion bolts / studs approx 150mm long? I have tried screwfix and a few others. Thanks. Paul

    Porch Canopy

Thanks woody, good picture. What length of expansion bolt would be best to use? Also, what is the best fixing for the top of the truss to the top bearer as I would imagine this would need to be quite substantial? Paul

    Porch Canopy

Thanks woody. Do you mean bearer timbers top and bottom with the mono pitched trusses fixed to the bearers? If so, does the truss require the vertical section between the two bearer timbers, and if so, wouldn't there be a gap the thickness if the bearer timber between the vertical section...

    Porch Canopy

Hi all. I am going to replace my rotten porch with a new one but I also want to extend the porch canopy across the front of my garage. The garage is integral and was built as part of an extension years ago. My question is: what is the best method of constructing the canopy and fixings, ie...

    Router speed?

Hi. I have a 1500w 1/2 inch router and intend to cut some masons mitre joints using a worktop jig. Most of what I have read sounds pretty straightforward but one question I have is should the router be set at a very high speed to cut well or a slower speed? Thanks. Paul
