    Skim over mould on ceiling?

We have a small amount of black mould on our bathroom ceiling. Now, the ceiling is artexed, so we want to get it skimmed anyway. The question is should we treat/clean off the mould first, or can we just skim over it and then paint with mould-resistant paint? Any thoughts?

    Very squeaky floorboards

We have a 16 year old house, very standard modern home with chipboard flooring. The floors upstairs creak and crack dreadfully, so I thought the answer might be to screw the flooring to the joists. So, my questions are: 1) Will this work ok? 2) How do I locate where the joists are? Any...

    water softeners in washing machines

We've recently moved house, and changed electricity supplier, and they automatically put us on an Economy 7 tariff. There is no reason for us to be on this tariff, and I would prefer to be on a normal tariff, as the unit price is cheaper. We have an Economy 7 meter installed, so does this...

    Opinions on Halstead boilers?

I'm looking to get a combi boiler in, and my local plumber has recommended a Halstead Eden CBX, on the grounds that it is quiet (the boilers going in a bedroom cupboard). This model also comes with a 5 year guarantee on the heat exchanger. My top priority on a boiler is reliability. I had...
