    Screw thread types

I’m looking for screws to fit some vintage cabinet knobs. Seems I need a ‘*open’ threaded version (left in pic) rather than the ‘*tight’ (right) version (*my terms!). I’ve no idea what the open threaded versions are called when ordering. Imperial, maybe? Any guidance appreciated.

Neff Combi Oven installation - mystery plastic

I’m swapping out our old Neff Combi oven/microwave for exactly the same model. One thing that’s puzzling me is a plastic sticker covering what looks like a vent on the top surface. Our old appliance doesn’t have this yet the symbols on the sticker suggests we leave it in position. Anyone know if...

Two lights into one plug, single switch?? Doable?

Thanks for replies. That junction box looks the kind of thing I was thinking of as it can be hidden above a shelf. As for wiring, I assume it's just a matter of marrying L/N/E into three of blocks. Wire up from plug then two drops out down to light sockets?

Two lights into one plug, single switch?? Doable?

thanks for quick replies. Before I rethink/give up on this, and just in case I've not explained myself clearly, here's a diagram of my initial thought. A picture paints a thousands words etc. No connector/junction box/splitter/daisy chain (ala xmas tree lights) would offer a solution??

Two lights into one plug, single switch?? Doable?

I want to run two bulbs, 1m apart to be suspended from hooks above a bed on free-hanging fabric cord. But the twist is I want to run them from the same plug and controlled with an single inline torpedo switch. Not sure how best to achieve this so all guidance welcome.

Thanks all. That adds up as we had doors fitted a few months ago so I now know who's bit it is! Gaz - to answer your Q, it's states #12 on the side.

    What's this drill bit for??

Left behind at my place by a tradesman many moons back. Can anyone tell me what its use is? Basically a drill bit housed within a retractable cover. Countersink? [ATT]108403[/ATTACH]

    Sound transfer between floors

Thanks both. Chappers - I've contacted Hepworth and awaiting a reply. Ken - As you'll see the cross-section already has a sound slab in the form of Rockwool but I see what you are saying with the introduction of Quietex. Similar in theory I'd guess to a suggestion I once received to use...

    Sound transfer between floors

Not sure where best to post this so thought I’d start here… Simply put, in our recently completed extension we can hear noise transmitting between the floors very, very clearly. People chatting, the noise of the curtains being drawn along a metal curtain pole sounds like they’re in the same...

Newly laid T&G chipboard floor just has to go

Frustratingly today I've learnt I need to replace a newly laid subfloor due to incredible amount of squeaking. I mean every footstep '' !!! We think we've identified the cause - an acoustic isolating rubber strip is allowing movement between the boards. We've tried no screws...

Have spent all day balancing the system and still no heat!!

It's a sealed system and we've bled all radiators and doesn't appear to be air. Plumber has suggested that next steps might be to cut pipe work where it goes into extension & attach hose pipe to push water through rads and out of other pipe to see if it flows ok and take it for there. It's got...

Have spent all day balancing the system and still no heat!!

Thank you for all these questions and for taking an interest! Yes that's why he put in the extra radiator upstairs to act as a vent. Do you think there could be a restriction somewhere and how can I track it down?

Have spent all day balancing the system and still no heat!!

Pipe work is apparently 28mm through house going to 22mm then down to 15mm into rads? As I say, rads have got warm when only rads on in house??! There is a tricky area upstairs where pipes are going up and over a step then round a corner- could this be an issue? Could there be a block?

Have spent all day balancing the system and still no heat!!

Thank you all for your replies. We did open the valves on new radiators fully but still nothing. Now going to try this morning to open only those radiators and turn off all the other radiators in the house - if /when the new radiators heat up then start turning on the others on the way back...

Have spent all day balancing the system and still no heat!!

Yes they do but only when all other radiators are turned off. Grant boiler (90-120) which is in fine and healthy order, feeding Rads- 6 ground floor (plus another 4 new ones that don't work) and 8 radiators upstairs (plus another extra one added into upstairs of new extension to try and help...

Have spent all day balancing the system and still no heat!!

Radiators fitted to the ground floor of my new, part-finshed, two-story, extension refuse to get warm. We're keen to get some use out of the room during xmas hence the part-finished state. Our plumber thought adding one radiator to the yet to be completed upstairs might help get heat down to...

    UFH has gone haywire

Thanks for response Gasguru- It does look a bit shabby but a lot to do with a very dusty cupboard after other works have made it maybe look worse that it appears. Or so we hope. We think leaking is old, from the initial commission but you're right, we'll need to investigate. We managed...

    UFH has gone haywire

Hi, Looking for some advice. Came home to find the UFH had stopped working. We haven't a clue about these things so bear with me. The background: Installed less than two years ago as part of a major refurb. Everything was set up by our plumber including room thermostats which we've...
