I’m looking for screws to fit some vintage cabinet knobs. Seems I need a ‘*open’ threaded version (left in pic) rather than the ‘*tight’ (right) version (*my terms!). I’ve no idea what the open threaded versions are called when ordering. Imperial, maybe? Any guidance appreciated.

Most likely BSW or Whitworth. Might be BA (British Armstrong). Both BSW and BA wete used on ironmongery

In the past I have purchased slightly oversized metric threaded rods an used an imperial tap and die set to cut the thread at the end the meets the imperial female hole (in the knob or letterbox), I have then used a metric nut at the other end.

It is something that I have only done a few times though.

Hopefully someone that knows more about threads will reply.

Got to physically check which one fits in the knob.
If you have a selection of bolts you could try at home, or go to a local diy store with the knob and ask.
