Adding Downlights to an existing Spur.

I had 2 Wall lights in a study on one switch and 3 downlighters on a separate switch. I've run a switch cable from the Wall Lights JB to the JB for the down lighters combining all to the 1st switch. I'm adding 4 down lighters to the JB with the existing three. I've decided to loop in the new...

Loose Cable Underfloor heating - Floor Prep?

I'm laying loose underfloor heating in an upstairs bathroom. I've replaced the flooring across the joists with green tongue and groove chip. I've got blue insulation boards and just wondered how you'd fit these normally? Can I get away with using a gunned contact adhesive? I'll be laying the...

    FIXING FOR BREEZE BLOCK

LOL at angry Chippy moaning about the 'Construction Industry' being attacked. We are in a recession, people are feeling the pinch and this is a DIY forum. If people were able to feel 100% confident they would not get ripped off and that all trades would do a top job then there would be less DIY...

Sink and Drainer not draining properly.

Yep all checked and all clear. Might do away with the U bend so I can get a better drop.

Sink and Drainer not draining properly.

I've got a Sink and a drainer both draining into a clear drain outside. I've checked that water drains down the vertical pipe but with both connected water appears to back up and not drain correctly as if there is some form of vaccuum. What is the correct setup for the wastes for a sink and...

    Thermostat Replacement

You're about as helpful as a chocolate sundial in a Floridian fat camp. Most links point to soil thermostats which I already have, most searches for IP65 rated room thermostats appear to point to industrial applications, hence the questions.

    Thermostat Replacement

Had a Sunvic TLX 2259 in the Greenhouse providing power to a socket used to power the Greenhouse heater. It eventually died due to some corrosion and a wire working loose. I have a Comap Senso S1 Thermostat and I assume it could replace the Sunvic for this application? Previously the Sunvic...

    Eterna Dimmer Uggh !

You are quite right Steve the wiring is dangerous. Temporarily I have sleeved it warn anyone. The fan however doesn't require an Earth as it double insulated or whatever the correct term is. With the Earth run as the Switch Live to the fan the fan came on with the light pull and went off via...

    Eterna Dimmer Uggh !

In the bathroom we have a simple pull switch which also triggers the timed extractor fan. The wiring to the extractor fan contained a mislabeled earth wire which I have taped red as I believe it was the switch to the fan. Anyway eveything worked, fan came on with light pull and went off...

Tiling up to a recessed Glass Block panel.

Tiled edges will be just cut 10mm travertine marble. I have managed to find some tile edging that comes in 20 and 25mm so I might see if I can knock up a dummy edge and see what sort of finish I can get. 12.5mm plasterboard +10mm marble + 2.5mm adhesive Looks a bit light on the adhesive for...

Tiling up to a recessed Glass Block panel.

We have two single width glass block panels in a bathroom wall of an ensuite. The panels sit within a timber frame in the stud wall which is faced with plasterboard. The glass blocks already sit recessed from the plasterboard and I now have to tile around them in 10mm marble. I am wondering...

Bathroom Mirror Light fed from shaver socket

Just to piggy back this thread to save starting another..I was wondering if the unswitched live feed to a shaver socket (already insitu) could be extended to power a new small underfloor heating system I'm about to have put in. I just want to make sure I have the First fix right for when a...

    Bathroom Extractor - Wiring ?

Yes I'd assume both old and new extractor have a timer function but I'm just puzzled as to why the switched live still shows 40V with the switch off ? I am only testing the cable at the moment rather than the fan fitted.

    Bathroom Extractor - Wiring ?

Could you elaborate on what you mean by the timer ? Cheers

    Hence the post.

    Bathroom Extractor - Wiring ?

Yeah that was my feeling. The Earth coded cable runs at 40V and then full 240V when the switch is activated so am I right in thinking that is switched live ? The Live coded cable is at constant 240v regardless of switching, so permanent live. Is it normal for the switched live to show 40V...

    Bathroom Extractor - Wiring ?

Replacing a bathroom extractor fan switched by the bathroom lighting pull cord. Am I right in assuming that the feeds will be: 1 x Neutral 2x Live (1 being the switch) I'll naturally be having someone Part P qualified to make the connections/check them but I was wondering because standard...

Moving the Hot Water Cylinder into the Loft.. (or down)

A smallish Cylinder sits in an airing cupboard that has been crafted in the corner of an upstairs bathroom. Bathroom is small enough and I need the space back. Currently both showers are pumped and there are two cold water (CW) tanks in the loft joined in series. The Loft is boarded out but...
