    Vent through vertical tiled wall

I went for flashing tape in the end. The dormer is getting ready for a re-insulation, re-felt and re-tile in the next few years, so I'll get it made more permanent then.

Dormer bungalow: insulation and boarding out roof spaces

Having read various posts about this problem, I wanted to see what the DIYnot collective knowledge thinks about my situation. I live in a dormer bungalow that has an early 1970s loft conversion. The ground floor ceiling is topped with about 3cm of fibreglass: I'm guessing this was added at...

    Vent through vertical tiled wall

Having just got the air conditioner through and looked at the Pipe fittings, they come already with an external vent grill. I reckon that I could get that in watertight with flashing tape so I think I'll give that a go in the first instance. Thanks for the suggestions!

    Vent through vertical tiled wall

I guess that you just nail the lead slate to the battens and then put the tiles back around it? I'm also guessing that the tube goes out. I'd need to cut it down if possible as it stands an awfully long way proud for a vertical wall (maybe more applicable on a flat or pitched roof.

    Vent through vertical tiled wall

Thanks I was wondering if could do something with lead rather than vent tiles. They're the inlet and outlet for a flush-mount air conditioner - so basically they work the same as an extractor. This looks like the sort of thing you mean...

    Vent through vertical tiled wall

I need to put two 100mm vents through a vertical tiled wall on a dormer. It's tiled with plain tiles. I've been looking around the internet at various roof vents that are designed for pitched roofs, I don't know whether these would do - they're not cheap and I don't know where to go to buy...

The Telegraph's Central Heating "Expert" - controv

Article here Summary of his recommendations:- * Run the heating continuously during cold spells * Always run the hot water continuously * Heat all your rooms - leaving rooms unheated doesn't save money overall as it risks condensation damage and can lower the overall efficiency of...

Automatic Bypass Valve on 15mm pipe - is this correct

I'm guessing that the rising pitch will be because the system pressure is going up as the pump works against the valve? I've had a better look at the valve body now, and it's a Taconova Setter valve. It's set to the right-hand "B", whatever that means. I googled it: specs here I'll have...

Automatic Bypass Valve on 15mm pipe - is this correct

The zone thermostats and motorised rad valves communicate wirelessly. The system has a wireless relay device that replaces your old roomstat. The device listens to the wireless traffic to see if any of the zones are demanding heating and calls for heat accordingly. All jolly clever stuff...

Automatic Bypass Valve on 15mm pipe - is this correct

Thanks for the response I'm going for a home automation system with zone control via motorised TRVs, so there'll be no single wall thermostat - hence why I need all TRVs. Fumbling for my camera now! British Gas 330 which I believe is a rebadged Glowworm - I think a 30 hxi. The...

Automatic Bypass Valve on 15mm pipe - is this correct

I've got a recent S-Plan system (less than 4 years old) that has TRVs fitted to some of the rads. I want to go to an all TRV system. Looking at the pipes, I've noticed what looks to be an automatic bypass between the primary after the pump but before the split and two motorised valves. It...

Corrugated garage roof - any suggestions

Still haven't managed to get a photo. Son has destroyed our camera and we haven't got a replacement yet.

    Moss on Roof

Erm. Minerals can either be of organic origin (e.g. coal) or of inorganic origin (e.g. asbestos). It's got nothing to do with whether they're man-made or not!

Corrugated garage roof - any suggestions

Thanks for the post mate, I'll try to get a photo taken. However to give you an idea of the frame it's 38 x 75 mm joists, maximum span 4.58 m. The spacing is pretty random from 910mm to 1600mm. A single up and over garage door is also suspended from some of them adding to the load. I've...

    General roofing prices

All sounds rather expensive to me, although if your house is a massive 5 bed affair or a chalet-style house, 8k might not be far off. For comparison I had a 3-bed 1930s semi done with Eternit slate for £3,500 ex VAT in London a few years ago. All three quotes were in the same region.

Corrugated garage roof - any suggestions

I'm really looking for any suggestions from those in the know. I have an Onduline garage roof (corrugated compressed bitumen and fibre sheets) that is leaking and sagging causing water to pool. It's at approximately 7-ish degrees pitch. As a side problem there is insufficient overhang to...

    SHOGUN AIR CONDITIONING SMELL

A similar thing happened to me. In the end I gave up. After several regasses and a brand new condenser failed to cure the problem it was just getting too costly - by then the total bill was north of £500. I now get hot in summer!

    Lights

Funny one this. Both sidelights had gone in my car (1997 Mazda 323F). Replaced off-side first with correct replacements from Halfords. Switched on. Bulb lit (old bulb filament clearly blown). Replaced near-side. Old bulb looks fine. Switched on. Doesn't light (off-side still...
