    Domestic premises : loft wiring

Dingbat, its hard to contain your dissappointment when you are advised on how to do a pucker job, spend lots of time and effort doing it, and then find someone saying its an incorrect method of installation. As for building control - what a flippin joke they are. Not that I would have been...

    Domestic premises : loft wiring

No mention was made by building control when they inspected my first fix wiring prior to plastering. I really would like to see the actual document that says its a no no. Cos as long as the cables are not damaged I dont see the problem.

    Domestic premises : loft wiring

You could use lay boards. I used gravel boards in mine. Used in the same way as the picture but the cables can be clipped onto the board together in groups using an appropriate size of cable clip, e.g three 1.5mm T+E on their ends go nicely into a 4mm clip. If you have CATV or coax then...

    fuse board in toilet!?

Been to look at a house today, cos we're thinking of moving, and the consumer unit is located in the toilet. Its seems quite new (the cu that is) and there are no taps etc just a toilet. Is this safe? Allowed? Just seemed a bit strange to me. I don't think it can be reached while doing...

I need to replace a damaged switch cable. If I want to run the new cable in oval conduit can it be tweaked into the back box to make installing the new cable easier, or do I need a oval to round convertor and then a bush? Would rather have the conduit going into the box than finishing...

I was looking at getting one of these http://www.screwfix.com/prods/10703/Electrical/Switches-Sockets/White-Moulded/Crabtree-Range/Pre-Wired-Plug-In-Ceiling-Rose They mention a besa box, is that the same as a conduit (loop in) box for example? I have glands for the fitting end so no...

    click rose query.

Im replacing the lamp holder in the loft with a florescant fitting. A friend has suggested using a click rose for the loop in wiring and then flex up to the fitting. Can I secure the click rose on a piece of timber fastened to the floor joists with a hole for the cables to come through back...

Re-wire of private owned council flat

Thanks for the replies guys. The existing singles are PVC, but look silver in colour. The fuseboard is an old cartridge type. The sockets are wired as three radials all connected to one 30A fuse. The switches and sockets are all bakerlite and well past there best. Its looks like the...
