    Nissan Micra Knock from rear

Thanks Burnerman, I thought I'd check the tailgate before climbing underneath. It was the catch loose in the staple. I loosenned the 2 bolts a bit, tapped the staple plate down a couple of mil tightened it and tested it, sorted! I took a look underneath anyway to check things out. It's in...

    Nissan Micra Knock from rear

Hi, The weather's grim and I'm not looking forward to spending time under my daughter's 1999 K11 (1000) to find out what's causing the knock/rattle that comes from the rear as it goes over bumps. Any suggestions that might help locate the problem quicker what be much appreciated :) She...

    Strange CH fault

Thanks folks. Is the sticking valve likely to be in the head part rather than the valve part? If so, would a squirt of WD40 make any difference, or do any harm? John

    Strange CH fault

Hi, I'd appreciate some advice about a strange fault that happens occasionally (yesterday), it probably occurred 4 times last year. When it occurs, I get home from work to find the house is really hot and the hot water is way too hot, dangerously so (it's funny how the ladies in the house...

    Condensation on pipes

Thanks to JPC for answering my question on fixing a cistern yesterday. Having fitted my new toilet, I now see why there was a bit of mildew around the pipes, the temperature of the water seems to cause a lot of condensation on the pipes which slowly drips off. I suppose lagging would help...

Toilet cistern - How does it fix to wall?

Hi, I am fitting a PJH Purity toilet, bought through B&Q, and although the cistern fits to the toilet pan there are no fixings to attach the cistern to the wall, not even any holes. This doesn't seem right, when I did a test-install before drilling the holes in the floor the cistern wobbles as...

    central heating boiler

I'm not a plumber, but a bit more info may make it easier for someone to help. For example on my system, I think this symptom could be caused by a problem with either the 3-way valve or the controller, and possibly a number of other things.

Sentinel X400 draining - Would this work?

I put x400 in my system last night and plan to drain it off at the weekend before putting X100 and x200 in. My system is a Y-plan, vented header, 3-way valve, 3-drain point system that is a pig to re-fill as it always gets air-locks that take forever to remove. So I got thinking... What if...

Can you recommend a joiner in Fareham area?

I need someone to make-up a threshold in Ash, with a rebate both sides for wood flooring, and to provide plugs to fill the screw holes. Do you know of anyone or an outfit near Whitely, Bishops Waltham or Fareham?

    Boiler noises and air

My system is a vented system (Y plan?), with Glow worm space saver boiler (installed in 1981), 3-way diverter valve, grundfos pump, potterton controller/timer and horstman programmable room stat. Trying it just now the noise was most obvious when it was heating HW only (I got it wrong...

    Boiler noises and air

My CH has always needed me to bleed one radiator regularly, I don't seem to have any leaks just air getting in when the heating is on. I don't think it happens when it is just HW on. Does anyone have any ideas what might cause it? :? Also, and I don't know if they're linked, while the...

    Help please - am stuck

Good news!!!… This morning the system was still not working properly, boiler lasting just a few minutes before cutting out (over temp I guess). I did a bit more draining (as per keego suggestion), then left it pumping, after about 40 minutes and several bouts of seriously loud gurgling the...

    Help please - am stuck

Now we're getting somewhere, I did as you suggested keego and it's going again. The boiler isn't completely happy as it has to be set on max to fire-up and cuts out after a few minutes, maybe the flow isn't good for some reason (still air trouble?).

    Help please - am stuck

Thanks keego, was typing when you posted. There is no bypass or other valves, but your confidence about it being an air-lock makes me hopeful, I guess I've just got to figure out where and how to shift it. Unfortunately familys gone to bed so will have to try tomorrow after work.

    Help please - am stuck

The boiler is a Glowworm Space Saver 45-60, most likely installed when the house was built in '81, I moved in in '94. The boiler switched-live is the same connection as the pump switched-live and it measures 239v when the either stat demands heat. I'm confused about the HW-Off connection...

    Help please - am stuck

I don't know if it'll help, but I've uploaded a pic here... //www.diynot.com/network/JohnBailey/albums/ This pipework is in the (upstairs) airing cupboard, the boiler is wall-hung downstairs. The nearest two 22mm pipes are CH flow and CH Return, the CH flow comes out of the back of the...

    Help please - am stuck

That would explain the 'coincidence' alright. I just, checked it again and found that the boiler cuts-out at precisely the moment the room stat clicks on, I would have thought an overheat cut-out may take a few seconds to cut-in, is that correct?

    Strange boiler behaviour...help required !!

I'm not an expert, and can't comment on the controller settings, but the difference between kitchen and bathroom tap behaviour could possibly be down to flow rate. Perhaps the kitchen has a slower flow so boiler cuts out to prevent overheating. Does the kitchen tap have one of those screw-in...
