    Help with conservatory change

Hi there, I think this is a common question but here we go... I've got an existing conservatory that I inherited when bought a maisonette flat. See attached photo. It has a glass roof which is leaking due to glazing bags having sagged. Also about 1/3 of wall glazing has blown and needs...

    False ceiling

Hi there, Hopefully a quick one. Got a false ceiling to put up under a concrete ceiling so can get downlights in. It's about 3m by 2.77m. Do you think I can get away with 2x4 for that span? And any recommendations for type and quantity of fixings for the 3m timber attached to walls? And are...

    Garden Lighting Advice

It seems different sites use the terms interchangeably... I'm talking about ones with transformers.

    Garden Lighting Advice

Shed base options for 3.6x6m shed

I'm currently planning/pricing a shed 3.6m x 6m and need some advice on the base which I'm planning to do in timber. Using the 3.6m to span my joists - I was going to use 2x8 so to avoid having a centre support, else I will use 2x6 and have a centre support. My local timber merchants stock...

    Length of floor notch

So I can't seem to find anyway on regs that limits the length of a notch in a floor joist... So my joist is 175mm deep and 3300mm span. I believe this allows me a notch 22mm deep between 330mm and 825mm in from the wall. However, what I cant see is where it says how long a single notch can...

    Exterior lighting wiring

Lol yes, quite right. I currently have a build regs application open which should cover this. So when you said loop by all means. did you mean loop from one light to another, rather than having two live light cables coming from switch? thanks

    Exterior lighting wiring

Hi there, I am just knocking an opening for some french doors at the moment and we are planning on lighting for the exterior. We will be having a lantern type light outside on either side of the french doors (not with PIR) with a 1 gang switch on the inside to control it and I was wondering...

    Advice on combi boiler make/model

Sorry yes I meant flow rate. I opened the kitchen tap up and filled a 15 litre bucket in 55 seconds. After reading around, I think the 30kw would be most suitable. The vaillant looks good, and agree, its not cheap! Are there any other worthy 30kw options? Thanks

    Advice on combi boiler make/model

Hi there, I am currently renovating my new house and will shortly be requiring a new combi boiler when I have finished all the pipework and radiators. The house is an average 2/3 bedroom house with 6/7 radiators. I have had one plumber who suggested going with a Worcestor Bosch Junior 24...

    Exterior Wooden Building

But the height of the wall is 2.5m, is this not enough head room? Ok, so below is my latest drawing... http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff165/d438a1/new.jpg

    Exterior Wooden Building

OK, so I have some new sketches, I hope they aren't too hard to work out. Having realised my near brainless mistake of having 6m lengths of wood, I have now reworked the plans. I have incorporated most peoples suggestions and important structural improvements. For the roof (Image 1), I...

    Exterior Wooden Building

Ossy, you are completely right! How stupid, the thought never occurred to me that i had put a 6m ridge beam in! I will have to make some major adjustments to the roof! JohnD, excellent point about ducts for power and water, etc. If there is a DPM under slab, and i put a strip of DPM...

    Exterior Wooden Building

Some nice pictures there! I like the idea of the little hatch doors to get access to the roof storage! Ok, so i will do some work on the roof plans to strengthen it and post a drawing soon. I have not yet fully investigated the restrictions to avoid planning permission. Are they...

    Exterior Wooden Building

Yeah, it will all be clad in either plywood or osb ,then finished off ,possibly with cedar. I did a quick mock up of a ridge beam and a tie, is something like this ok? http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff165/d438a1/7.jpg

    Exterior Wooden Building

Hi, I am hoping to construct a wooden out building next spring all going well and I have started planning for it. I have not decided upon sizes properly, but i want to try settle on a design specification. But for my first prototype design, i have used 6m x 4m. I have take some screenshots of...
