    freesat in a flat

It's likely all the flats will be supplied by one communal dish. If your neighbours are picking up Sky or Freesat, then there's no reason to believe you wouldn't get it as well.

Sound quality difference between SD and HD....

Difference in bitrates between Freeview and Freesat perhaps? Not that I've compared them but I would assume it could be higher with satellite, and that freeview probably compresses the audio more.

Sound quality difference between SD and HD....

That's strange. I use a Samsung FreeSat box for HD and find the opposite. HD audio is louder and very slightly clearer. A difference in the box perhaps, how are you receiving HD?

    FREESAT HD BOX???????????

Forgot to mention. One of the criticisms I read about the Samsung is that you couldn't pad recordings, to make sure you didn't miss beginning/end of programmes. The Samsung uses the network signal to start recording at the beginning of the programme, and waits until the next programme starts...

    FREESAT HD BOX???????????

I have the Samsung 57800 and I'm very pleased with it. What problems did they mention in the reviews? The one remote works fine with my Samsung TV as well. Once it 'lost' all my recordings, but a reset of the box restored them all again. And ITVPlayer still isn't available - I think that's...

    Photoshop vs Windows photo gallery

I'm not familiar with Windows photo gallery but it's probably compressing your jpeg image more than the original. Jpeg is a compressed file format and the compression can vary. The more compression used, the more detail is lost. See if there's a setting where you can control the image quality...

    Good luck with it ;)

    Under exposure

Have you tried taking the lens cap off  If you're using Aperture Priority I'd certainly expect a correct exposure with the lens wide open, even at 100 ISO. What about the other automatic modes, what results do they give? As a starting point I'd recommend setting the camera back to...

    Under exposure

What sort of settings are you using, and in what lighting? Maybe the camera simulator at http://www.photonhead.com/simcam/ might help. If you're shooting outdoors then at 100iso an expose of 1/125th and f8/f11 should get you close.

    tuning tv

Can you remove the splitter to take it out of the equation? I would imagine the signal is too weak, possibly due to the splitter. On Freeview, channels are multiplexed together into groups. Most of the BBC channels are on Mux 1, while ITV are on Mux 2. (There are also other muxes) Usually Mux...

    Damp compression joint

Yes the water's very soft around here. I've tightened it up as much as I can, so looks like I'll have to try again :( Thanks for the feedback

High Speed Flash has anyone used it.

Reducing the aperture will let less ambient light in, and a higher output flash will have more impact. Try it out. Camera on manual settings. Set the shutter speed to its highest sync speed - probably 125th/sec, and reduce the aperture so that you eliminate most of the ambient light. The...

High Speed Flash has anyone used it.

If I'm reading this correctly what you really need is a flash with a much higher output. Then you can use a smaller f-stop so that the ambient light isn't enough to influence the exposure. Or try using a higher ISO and see how that works. The shutter must be fully open, at the moment of...

Downgrade from sky to freest or freeview

I'd second this, or the Samsung Freesat box. The Humax has both BBC and ITV iPlayer while Samsung only has BBC iPlayer at the moment. I don't have a Sky box but am told that they list all the channels in their guide even if you're just using it for the free channels, and you're unable to hide...

    Damp compression joint

Thanks for the replies. Now two days later and no drips at all, but still very slightly damp - only shows if you rub a dusty finger over the joint. Was hoping there might have been an easy way, or someone (honestly) to say it's not enough to worry about :( Looks like I'll have to strip it...

    Damp compression joint

I've just installed a new bath. The hot feed to the tap is from an existing 3/4in copper tube to a 22mm flexi tap connector, with a 3/4in copper olive. The problem is, that while not dripping, the joint remains damp. I've tried wrapping PTFE tape over the olive but it hasn't helped. Am I...

    0800 numbers

As well as Google a good place to search for them is http://www.saynoto0870.com/ It's also a great for finding alternative numbers, so if you get free calls to landline numbers, or inclusive minutes on your mobile, you can find out where many 0800 and 0870 numbers go to.

    Front door contacts

Thanks everyone. I mistakenly believed that the faces of the contacts had to touch. Having tested them it seems to work ok if i put one on the angled edge of the door and the other flat on the frame. There's a single arrow on each but it doesn't seem to matter which way they point ... and...

Yes that's correct, sorry. Will a drawing do for now. This is the profile of the door. Thanks

    Front door contacts

I've just replaced my front door. The old door had square edges, so no problem fitting door contacts, but on the new one the internal corner is chamfered. The door edge where it meets the frame is only 5mm which is much smaller than the switches I've found, so whats the best solution? I had...
