Building Control, £400 and no site visit?

Having some re-roofing done, informed building control of the start date and paid my £400 to building control as advised. Work's half done now, roofers been here for 10 days and not one single visit from the inspector. Never really dealt with building control before, I would have assumed...

    Re-use CH pipe for gas?

I'm not going it myself, I don't touch gas, nor do I fit boilers. But I'd like to know the answer so I can either remove the old CH pipes and have the pantry(where the old boiler was) skimmed or leave one pipe in place for the gas fitter to use when I'm ready to have the boiler installed.

    Re-use CH pipe for gas?

Having to move the boiler to the other side of the house, planning it out now, can you re-use a pipe run of 22mm copper that was previously used for the CH for a new gas run? or does the gas supply to the boiler require a new pipe? It's quite a long, hard to access run you see and there's an...

New combi required, under 700mm high?

Thanks for the replies, the area is like this cross section: If I allow for approx 200mm under the boiler, and around 200mm above so 700+200+200=1100.... Should just be OK. Worst comes to worst I can always bring the back wall where the boiler is going further forward which will gain...

    Re-roof quote

Just had a quote to re roof 5 terraces houses, 40sqm roof area per house, remove old slates and re-roof with marley modern/cement tiles... West yorks area, quote came in at 22500 all in(flashing, scaffolding, copings, ridge tiles). Works out 4500 per house which seems expensive to me.

New combi required, under 700mm high?

Replacing an old heater with a new combi(3 bed detached house).... It must go in the same place, under the stairs. Height of the back wall is 1070mm to the stairs, then obviously goes up as the stairs climb. So any new combi needs to be around >700mm high.... Had a look at a few and keep...

Plaster already flush with doorframe & reskimming

Need some reskimming done, at present the plaster is either flush or slighty proud or the door frames. Is it wise to add some 3mm strips of wood to the frames to give the plasterer an edge? then stick the architrave on top. Or better to just have him do the best he can and then rebate the...

    Where to vent soil pipe?

Stack was moved because it was basically in the middle of the kitchen, builders moved it(not me). Toilet is around 2m from stack outside, so the pipe enters the house and runs along the joist to the toilet.

    Where to vent soil pipe?

Had some building work done on the house, this meant the soil stack had to be removed, previously it was inside the house, exiting out the roof. (see pic) It's now been moved to the side of the house (outside) but not connected up yet as the bathroom needs doing. Part of the old stack is...

Over boarding ceiling, yay or nay?

I'm boarding out my mum's loft, it's the first job in a long list as she's renovating the whole house. Before I start I'd like to suss out what to do with the bedroom ceilings. The bedroom ceilings are plasterboard but there's cracks on virtually every single joint (they're wallpapered as...

Leaking compression joint on a rad valve

I appreciate all your help.... I must be immensely thick because I still don't get how the water is going to stay in. Why would just 3 litres come out and then stop? and where is exactly is that 3 litres coming from?

Leaking compression joint on a rad valve

when you say air vent, you mean drain valve? If I open that won't gravity force all the water out? When it stops, the system would be nearly empty

Leaking compression joint on a rad valve

yea, it's coming from the tail but not from underneath the nut, above the nut. Not loft tank, just a combi boiler. If I close off all the valves to all rads in the house, drain a little bit off the system, will that allow me redo the joint?

Leaking compression joint on a rad valve

by the way. The weaping is not coming from underneath the nut, but seems to be seeping up the threads and out of the top. Water is sitting on the top of the compression joint nut

Leaking compression joint on a rad valve

I have a weeping joint on the compression joint on the copper pipe going up to a Rad valve upstairs. I've tightened up the joint but it still weeps, it really needs re-doing. I have a sealed system, X100 was only put in recently. So the problem I have is in order to fix the joint I'll have...

    Wood worm on upstairs Joist

Been doing some work in an upstairs bedroom, removed some floor boards to run some cable and spotted a pile of what looked like sawdust near the end joist. On close inspection, the top of the joist where I had removed the floor board crumbled away. I removed all the loose material with a...
