    Connecting earth rods

Hi, I'm getting a ze of 150ohms from an earth rod. To bring it down to a more acceptable level I thought of banging another one in and looping them together. Does anyone know if there is a specific or recommened distance that the rods have to be from eachother? I seem to remember hearing...

    RCD won't reset

Thanks, yes on closer inspection it's a GE board. My mistake, I meant to say that the RCD was replaced recently NOT the consumer unit . There's just one RCD and 8 MCB's. I did try unplugging everything and then reseting it but I still needed to switch off the MCB's first. Thank you

    RCD won't reset

I recently tested my RCD by pressing the test button. But I couldn't reset it without first switching off all the mcb's; is this normal? The consumer unit was only changed a couple of months ago so I can't imagine that it would be faulty. Thank you

    Siemens Hob

Hi, sorry for the late reply! Yes, Veglen, I did have to use all the copper links as Steve said. And, as Taylortwocities did, I too closed my eyes and switched on! It would be a lot easier, and probably safer, if the instructions were better written. I think some manufacturers use the...

    Siemens Hob

Thanks to all who replied and apologies for the lack of info about the hob. The different diagrams for connection are marked N1, N2 & N3. Although there is no mention of it in the instructions it turns out that N1 is for one phase and one Neutral (UK) N2 is for Dual phase and N3 for 3 phase...

    Siemens Hob

Hi can anyone give me any advice on how to connect a Siemens Hob, please? There are 5 terminals (plus earth). 2 of the terminals are marked Neutral and are linked together and the other terminals are for the live conductor. There are some spare copper links and 3 diagrams showing the...

    Downlighter facts.

Hi I'm looking in to having some of the dreaded downlighters fitted but am really confused by all the different types and running cost etc. Could someone perhaps clarify the following points, please? (1) Can halogen lamps be dimmed? (2) Can the low voltage transformer ones be dimmed...

    Separate eath Cable for shower?

Hi I'm having some major work done on the house and so prior to replastering and having a new floor laid I'd like to run a 10mm Twin & earth cable from near my consumer unit to the bathroom, as at some point in the future we plan to have an electric shower installed. I've heard (not from...

    Cable for downlighters

Whoops!! I've connected mine directly to the 1.5mm T&E. Is this ilegal, against the Regs, dangerous - all of the above??

    Downlighters under a canopy

Hi, I want to buy some downlights to fit under an external canopy and open porch. What IP rating should I be looking for? I was going to use CFL lights instead of the hotter halogen ones as the underside of the canopy is UPVC. The only CFL ones I've seen are rated at IP65 (sold as suitable...
