Ah...., but perhaps it has been failing on the CH side and I just hadn't noticed. Is it possible the burner would just start /fail more often like it does for the HW? Would the effect not therefore be warm radiators that I would have (incorrectly) assumed that this meant the CH was okay? GW

Correct!! Just had a gas fitter out who drew the same conclusion as boilerbeasty and is going to try and get a replacement fan. (Albeit noting the age of the boiler he thought a replacement boiler would probably be the best option). Thanks for all the info. GW

It is natural gas. The boiler was serviced about 2 years ago and the engineer (from Scottish Gas) said it was in perfect working order. It has for awhile taken time (say 5-10mins) to ignite but only recently has it gone to the extreme of 30mins +.
