Advice required for wiring new immersion heater controller

Well my mother phoned, no hot water today and the boost isn't working ! The old BX2000 had black scorching marks around the relay, so he replaced the unit with one with a timer as mentioned. However this was designed for a single supply, and ideally two heater elements. The engineer used...

Advice required for wiring new immersion heater controller

LOL - I quite agree, she is easily confused ! Chap from the council turned up with a new controller, with a timer function that can be programmed to heat the water any time when in off peak mode and has a 60, 40, 20 minute boost function. Tried to explain how the boost works was hard work :)...

Advice required for wiring new immersion heater controller

Thanks for the reply guys, The chap from the council determined the BX2000's timer was faulty. He took the live peak supply and swapped it for the off peak and nothing lit up (ie the indicator on the front panel). One will be ordered, and he's coming back tomorrow to replace the 15a fuse...

Advice required for wiring new immersion heater controller

Hi, My 89 year old mother lives in a council house, which has been all electric since my late father had the gas removed and economy 7 installed. Since father passed away earlier this year and not knowing much about the household things she no relies on me to sort things out when they go...

3-way motorised valve - recommendations please

Hi, About fifteen months ago I replaced a faulty 3 way valve with a Horsman unit (purchased from screwfix), well tonight it seems to of given up and caused the boiler to switch off. After a bit of manual fiddling with the lever I managed to get it to work, but the motor part buzzes and...

Do i need to fit a surrey flange for my shower pump?

I suggest you fit the pump as per the instructions, ie seperate cold feed from the cold water storage tank, and use a surrey or essex flange to draw off the hot water. If you tee into the cold feed from the tank that also feeds the HW cylinder you might also run into problems in that the draw...

Excessive gas usage - proper figures included

At over £5 a day that seems a bit high. We've just got our bill and it works out at just under £3.20 per day for heating and cooking. Our system is gravity fed HW and pumped CH to 8 rads (5 large doubles). The house is end of terraced, with the end wall north facing. The house has a shallow...

My heating has packed up HELP PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No expert, but I see that from a previous post the boiler could be fan assisted. We have a Baxi and the fan on that stopped working, and as a result the boiler would not light. I was able to test that power was being applied to the fan motor but it simply wouldn't run. I had a corgi...

Please look if you are a professional plumber

Been away for some time and just seen the pictures in the original post. Not going to get into any of the "politics" discussed in all the other 5 pages, but just wanted to state that 16 months ago I re-piped the complete radiator circuit and installed several new radiators myself. I'm no...

    Vented system - air separator

Mick, thanks for the comments, and your guess was close. 800mm from centre of pump to outlet from F/E tank. However, even if I lowered the pump I could only gain a further 300mm without having to re-plumb the HW tank / three way valve and feeds to the rads. As we don't have a loft and the roof...

    CH Busted Pump ?

I thought the idea of the valves were to enable the pump to be changed without having to drain down the system. - close valves, change pump open valves. As most plumbers work on an hourly rate (or part of), the time it takes to drain down a system would be built into the cost to the customer...

    CH Busted Pump ?

LOL - yeah... but then most plumbers would.. Time to drain down.... Cost of new valves... Time to re-fill and clear any airlocks..... = ££££££££££ :) :D (puts on fire proof suit) :)

c/h boiler heating up but no hot water in system

mikell, does the pump body get hot even if it isn't running ? Replacing a pump is quite simple. Should take you about an hour tops. I recently replaced mine and I was up and running in less than an hour. 1 ) - Turn off the power to the CH electrics and remove the cable from the...

    Vented system - air separator

Th picture is a bit deceiving. The tank sits on three hardwood beams that are about 2" thick and 3" wide, the first of which can be seen behind the softwood plank (slightly bowing) that the clothes are placed on.

    CH Busted Pump ?

B&Q Value Groove Joint Water Pump Pliers 240mm Cost less than £5. The secret is to apply the pressure gently, which reduces the risk of damage to the brass nuts, and or pipework.

    Vented system - air separator

Well I've finally got round to re-plumbing the CH to include the separator. OK the soldering might not win any prizes for neatness, but it don't leak :) So far the system is working fine and we are no longer getting air in the upstairs rads.

Minimum hot water requirement for power shower

Hopefully the instructions http://www.salamanderpumps.co.uk/Download/instructions.pdf might answer your questions. Make sure you use a flange fitting on the HW cylinder as per the instructions so as not to draw in air into the pump
