    Patio base.

Hi all. I'm building a raised patio, 4 course high, with hardcore and approx 100mm of reinforced concrete fill. The concrete will be contained between the house and wall. Do I need to put any expansion gaps in? I've hopefully uploaded a pic with sizes etc. Thanks. Nick

    Suspended wooden floor prep.

Hi, I'm preparing a floor to accept 6mm plywood as a base for amtico planks. The existing suspended floor is a mixture of old t&g floorboards and plywood. My idea is to caulk any gaps and run slc all over the floor before nailing the plywood down. Is this the way to do it? Cheers.Nick.

    Amtico

Hi all. What do you LVT fitters do at door thresholds when the heights are different? The difference is only about 3mm. The floor I'm about to lay on is highest. There is already Amtico in the other rooms but the new planks I'm laying next weekend won't butt up to the existing. Is there a...

Hello, I'm laying some Karndean at home this week and I've not bought any adhesive. Will Laybond L80 Gold do the job or can you recommend another adhesive that I can buy locally, ie from one of the sheds? Cheers. Nick.

    latex on plywood

Hi all, I'm going to lay vinyl on my new plywood floor and want to smooth/fill all the screw holes and join. Would it be OK to thinly apply self leveling compound to do this? And is it suitable for 1st floor use due to flexing of the floor? Cheers. nick.

    Shower Pump Problem?

Hi, I've fitted a new shower pump today (Stuart Turner 2.5 Positive head). The pump works well with the cheapo shower we have at the moment. The possible problem is that the pump momentarily starts up when a hot tap is turned off elsewhere in the house! Is there a particular...

    Radiator F&R Temp Difference.

Morning all, I've drained and refilled my central heating system and have done a reasonable(imo) job of balancing the system. Other posts have said to check manufacturers recommendations for f&r pipe temps to the rads. I will be using an IR gun. My boiler is a Vaillant ecotec plus 428. Is the...

    Merbau Finish?

Hi all, i'm about to sand a herringbone floor that is probably Merbau. Can anybody recommend a good finish for this wood? I was going to use Osmo Polyx but it is not recommended for dark hardwoods. I'd preferably like the wood to stay as light as possible but realize that the "wetting effect"...

    Lifting Herringbone Floor

Hi all, I've got some lifted 9" by 2 3/4" t&g blocks, which i presume were stuck down with bitumen or tar and need to take them out to refix them(they aren't moving, they sound hollow when you tap them). The problem is they are away from the edge so can't be removed block by block(if...
