    Running supply to detached garage

Do you think garage doors would fall into the "extraneous" category ? The doors themselves are made of a steel frame with timber inlays. The actual frames are steel, and bolted directly to the blockwork. The bottom ends of the frames are in contact with the garage floor, but also partly in...

    Running supply to detached garage

It will all be tested by an electrician; I have an arrangement with someone who is happy to let me do the design & installation, and he does my testing. It's an arrangement that's worked well on the 5-bed selfbuild that I've designed & wired myself so far...

    Running supply to detached garage

Thanks :) I assume I'd have to run 10mm2 from the bonding point in the house, to where the 10mm2 T&E joins the SWA ? It's not practical for me to do that, now the house is all finished inside - so I guess the practical option is TT in the garage, if I ever run a water supply out there...

    Running supply to detached garage

Great, thanks for the reply. Regarding (4). If I export the earth, does it matter which end of the SWA cable the armour gets earthed at ?

    Running supply to detached garage

Hi all Am looking for some advice on running a supply to a detached garage. Some pertinent info: - I believe the house supply is TNCS - I have a spare way in the house CU on the non-RCD side - 15m of 10mm2 T&E (with 4mm2 CPC) runs from the house CU, through the house to the exterior...

    Advice for tiling an ensuite

Hi all I'm finally getting round to fitting out our ensuite - we've been undertaking a selfbuild over the last few years, and fitting out the ensuite was down the budget/priority list, so has sat full of junk for last 4 years... Currently the room is as follows: Walls - 12.5mm...

    Heat bank & boiler connections

Thanks Dan. Rad height won't be an issue. What's the reasoning behind not running the vent outside ? (Not disagreeing with you, I just like to understand why).

    Heat bank & boiler connections

Hi all I have a heatbank in our selfbuild, that is hooked up to a Vaillant boiler and has been working fine in the 3 or so years since it's been fitted. It's all situated on the ground floor, with a feed and expansion tank up in the loft. Boiler is controlled by twin thermostats fitted low...

    Recommend me a new blowlamp...

Thanks for the replies. Think I'll order one. Seems that my local B&Q sell the cartridges, assuming these are the right ones: http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=11248046 What is MAPP gas used for, I understand it burns hotter than other gases, but is it used...

    Could X800 overkill damage pump?

Funnily enough, I emailed Sentinel the other day to ask how long I could leave X800 in my CH system for. They said there was no limit as such, just that it will start to lose effectiveness after around 4 weeks.

    Recommend me a new blowlamp...

Any thoughts on this: http://www.gasproducts.co.uk/acatalog/GoSystem_QP8937H_Quick_Pro_Auto_Swirl_Torch.html £21 seems like a good price, it's £50 at B&Q...

    Recommend me a new blowlamp...

Just after something for DIY use, doesn't need to be as top quality as it might if I relied upon it for my job.

    Recommend me a new blowlamp...

I see that B&Q do the GoSystems brand, and somewhere else yesterday I saw some CampingGaz ones, similar features for similar prices. Are either of these brands OK ?

    Recommend me a new blowlamp...

Hi I'm looking to buy a blowlamp for DIY plumbing use. I'd like one with built-in ignition, and that uses gas cartridges that are easily available. Ideally under £30 if poss. Any recommendations, or useful features I should look out for ?

    Fitting a MagnaClean

OK, so I have bought myself a Magnaclean Twintech, and am intending to fit it to my boiler return. I was holding it up to the pipework earlier, to see best place to fit it, and it struck me as being quite a weighty lump to hang off 2 pipe connections. Do people generally give them any...

    Plumbing fittings help needed !

Back again... Was browsing through the BES catalogue and I noticed item 13753: http://www.bes.co.uk/products/095a.asp#13753 3/4" BSP to 22mm compression, 19mm bore, up to 85ºc and 10bar, and 300mm long. Would probably make installation a bit easier too. Thoughts ? Are the 3/4"...

    Plumbing fittings help needed !

Well... I've been doing a selfbuild project over the last few years, house is a mix of 1, 2 and 3 storey. I have an open-vented heat bank (or thermal store, seems people use the terms interchangeably) on the ground floor. I have UFH (8 zones) on the ground floor fed from the store, which is...

    Plumbing fittings help needed !

Thanks for that. I'll give it a go. Think it'll stand up to 5-6m head of water above it ?
