    Advice Please

Morning, Completed laying all the tiles. Returned when customer informed they are not happy and dont want me to complete the work. His reasons I think are unreasonable: Those that are in more prominent positions can be removed and recut then fitted. We are talking about a few mm...

Walking on Floor tiles before they are set....

Rapid set should dry very fast, but how wet was your mix? I would hold up the electric mixer above the mixed tub with adhesive on it. If it runs off/down its too wet. It should basically stick to the mixer blade with slight drips/droops only.

What Adhesive? Ceramic floor tiles on 12mm ply.

Hard to say for sure. Depends how deep your bed of adhesive is and how "stiff" you make the mix. Believe me you allways use more than you think! At an estimate a 20 kg of Bal Rapid set flexible will do 4-5 square meters

    Underfloor heating in kitchen

Having read the rather amusing post, I must admit that as a tiler and plumber I would never do what you intend. Underfloor heating mats are not that expensive. £220 for 5 square meters plus thermostatic timer. Why I think matted underfloor heating is a better LONG term option. Easy to fit...

Yes. I am just doing a job for someone with the same issue. Area of plaster from floor to about 1m above bath sodden. The customer has big tiles and need a good base to fix. Even when the wet/damp plaster dries it will not be as solid as before. Suggest- hack off all wet/damp plaster or...

    Insurance Job for tiling

Advice from some of the other tilers on here: A customer had work done by British Gas and basically ripped out loads of floor and wall tiles to do their work. They did not replace them telling the customer to get it done by a professional and submit a bill- Which they will then pay! The...

Best Sealant to use round Windows

Allways buy the best sealant you can. Cheap ones are difficult to smooth and will get map/mildew much quicker. Not sure why some say not to use on PVC... I would have thought sealing the gap between UPVC and the sill is one the most most common uses. There must be a differense in the way it...

    Bubbles in wallpaper

Just doing a job with thick backing paper before decorating. Here are some thoughts: Bubbles can be formed by trapped by air/creases in paper i.e. not hung straight or backing material not taking the glue (old wall paper does this if you are papering onto existing wall paper) Some cures...

    Plastering on AquaPrufe

Thanks. you are right it cures super fast. By the time I put the brush down its loosing its tack. I chucked loads of sand on. Left it on then brushed off the next day, leaving the hardened bitumen sand exterior. Used one coat seems OK but what a phaff. You are right sort the leak first. Been...

    Plastering on AquaPrufe

Hi, I have to plaster on Aquaprufe-bitumen waterproofing? I have damp coming through a wall. The bitumen creates a waterproof coat and should let damp evaporate "naturally rather then through the brick and plaster. I was told that on the second coat while the product is still wet on the wall...

    Hiring a professional

Its tough to give a quote as mentioned above. Depends on what one finds. I would charge 100-150 per day depending on the nature of the job plus materials.
