I have outside window sills that are cotswolds stone. The general condition is good. There are a few layers of old tattered paint on them. I stripped off all the old layers to leave the exposed porous stone.

What masonary paint and method should I use to paint them? I would like to paint them white.

I understand that cotswold stone has a high lime content so is not ideal to paint. Any advice please?

Lime being Alkali will be a problem...well spotted.

I would give them a coat of thinned out Alaki resisting primer...the a full coat follwed by water based masonry paint not oil, its oil based that reacts with the Alkali.
