Removing masonry paint from render: how to manage the mess?

I did a quick experiment with my jet washer, which seems to have the desired effect (see pic below) removing the blistered paint back to what looks to me like relatively sound render. A second pass is clearly needed before treatment and repainting. This was just a quick try. My question is how...

Oil-filled radiator specifications: 'nominal heat output' versus 'rated power'

Answering my own question......these YT videos tell me all I need to know, and a lot more too about the fundamentally flawed design approach. There's an interesting improvement modification for those who are competent. My tri-wing Y-bit screwdrivers are on order for investigative purposes :cool...

Oil-filled radiator specifications: 'nominal heat output' versus 'rated power'

The technical data of a number of products (e.g. similar to https://www.farnell.com/datasheets/3120980.pdf) suggests the actual heat output is about half that of the headline rated figure (i.e. what looks good on the box). That 650Watt rated item, for example, has a nominal of 0.3492kW, i.e...

Balanced flue gas fire - replacing piezo sparker - GasSafe job or not??

Agreed! Easy to use - good for low-level background heating, and few if any safety issues. Just a tiny shame that the Piezo device has a limited lifetime.

Balanced flue gas fire - replacing piezo sparker - GasSafe job or not??

Wow! That is good news. I'll contact that first supplier. Hopefully it is not just the nut they have in stock. This is one of many suppliers that indicates obsolescence: https://www.heatingspareparts.com/boiler-spares/partno/0554909/53770

Balanced flue gas fire - replacing piezo sparker - GasSafe job or not??

I was told some while ago, by what would have been a CORGI guy (at the time) that I called in, that replacing the Piezo sparker was DIY-able. He confirmed that this was because although the Piezo device was inside the external casework, it was not inside the sealed compartment, i.e. not on the...

Backlight timeout delay on Worcester Comfort II RF controller

Thanks! I will try that, as it's something easily within my control. There's only about 12 feet from boiler to the controller as it is, but there may be signal interference. BTW - the acknowledgment of the 'demand' signal is the little flame symbol. That doesn't show until the boiler has fired...

Backlight timeout delay on Worcester Comfort II RF controller

Any ideas what determines the delay on the display backlight? The light comes on when the temp setting is adjusted (as expected), but sometimes it goes off quickly, and sometimes it stays on for a minute or so, which seems a bit long. Is the OFF signal sent from the WB boiler, or is it a...

    Servicing a 30-year-old dehumidifier....?

In case anyone's doing similar, and as a reminder if/when I do this again, the cover removal sequence that I used was as follows, requiring a ~6.5mm hex driver for the majority, and an 8mm hex driver for the remaining two heavier fixings. E&OE and YMMV..... 1) I removed water collection bottle...

    Servicing a 30-year-old dehumidifier....?

My Amcor D250 (the tall skinny model) is still going strong, despite its age. The equipment label says the manufacture date was 12/1993. Any suggestions on appropriate TLC? Thanks!

    Exterior finish question

Guessing it might be Tyrolean Render. I say that because mine has what looks like that same blistering effect in the low spots (evident more in your photo #3) with that partial smoothed out appearance, with just the tips showing. edit: properties in my area generally jack-hammer old render...

    Garden 'Event Shelter' (Coleman brand?)

Ooop! After a large size BTW, so 4-4.5 meters per side.

    Garden 'Event Shelter' (Coleman brand?)

Anyone here have knowledge or experience of 'igloo' style event shelters? I am aware of the Coleman brand, which I am sure are very good, but I have a recollection of much thicker poles (these are only 20mm IIUC, and I recall 1"-1.5" or so), and what looked looked like galvanised steel, rather...

Provenance of 'tool' box - apprentice piece, maybe?

Thanks Guys - very useful responses & questions. The lock seems very puny. A determined whatever could pinch the whole thing. Might stop pilfering if it contained stock of some kind..... No handle or obvious fixing mounts! Ext dims are 15 3/8" x 6" x 2 7/8". Int dims are 14 1/16" x 4 5/8"...

Provenance of 'tool' box - apprentice piece, maybe?

Any thoughts here as to the provenance of this, just so I can make best use? I thought it might be something a trainee would make, rather than a hobby item. Some of the tools it originally had looked like they could be a farriers. Not sure why it'd be lockable. Ideas welcome!

Electrolux ESL63010 dishwasher not heating *on some programs*

It is not the element as it does heat on ECO and 30min. It is still useable! I am guessing 1) programmer/timer or 2) the flexible cable/wiring harness, but I cannot find a decent complete wiring diagram. Service manuals available online do not seem to be designed for the fault-finding DIYer...

Drilling Deceuninck door for roller blind brackets

Thanks! There was indeed 'something there' for each of the lower fixings that needed a clearance hole drilling out. A 2mm pilot did the trick. The upper fixing (there are two screws per bracket) was just into plastic as far as I could make out. Anyway, all sorted now :)

Drilling Deceuninck door for roller blind brackets

I am after advice if I can drill or not into the locations shown in the pics for mounting roller blind brackets on the back of a Deceuninck door. Will I hit anything critical, and is there likely to be metal reinforcement? Screws are about 1" long. Comments welcome I would ask the...

Pairing programmable thermostat with existing WB receiver controller

I currently have this controlling my fully GasSafe installed WB Greenstar 30i... If I purchased this ... Is it possible to unpair my existing thermostat shown top right, and replace/pair with the new programmable thermostat shown bottom right. I understand there could be possible timer...
