1/2" tap backnut

I have purchased a bathroom basin which has 2 30mm dia holes for the taps.

Given that each tap has a 1/2" thread, this is a hell of a lot of play to centre the tap.

Also, the biggest problem is that the flange on the backnut and the diameter of the washer means that there is only about 3mm of grip all the way round to seal and hold the tap in position.

What is solution here?

Purchase 2 top hat washers which will centralise your taps.
Cost pennies
