I've just bought a couple of new basin taps, off the ebay. They look new, the packaging wasn't open. They are these:

http://www.pegleryorkshire.co.uk/EN...ty/Performa_Extended_Lever/product/Basin_Taps

They've got brass backnuts (nice) but don't seem to have a washer for the backnut. There's a rubber washer (between top of basin and tap, yes?). But according to Pegler's site there should be ARW2, a polyethylene anti rotation washer.

Question - do I need to order Pegler's own specific washer, or will any poly 1/2" washer do, like these?

Thanks in advance.

I always fit ,"top hat" washers with brass nuts. 1/2 in size for basin taps.

Thanks for the reply. This is a ceramic sink, so I don't need the top hat to prevent the nut bottoming out. I found some flat poly 1/2" washers in my plumbing case, so used one of those. I'm going to refit these taps anyway (for another reason), so I think I'll got with these:

to stop my tap sliding about as I tighten the back nut.

Top hat washers spread the load over a wider area ,are less likely to rotate when tightening the back nut ,and you are in less danger of cracking the ceramic basin if you go heavy handed tightening up the brass back nut.
