12v 7AH Lead Acid Battery.

Got one of these batteries that needs replacing. It has spade connections on the terminals for connecting the wires to.

My question is, does anyone know what the silicone like substance is that is applied over the top of the connections.

It had set reasonably hard, but it prised away, easily enough with a small screwdriver and I would like to add some to the new battery. It obviously keeps the connections secure and keeps condensation and damp away.

I wonder if you could use hot melt glue from a glue gun?

The security of the connection relies on the slide on terminal being a tight fit on the battery's tab and the raised part fitting into the hole in the battery's tabs.

The slide ons may need to be gently squeezed to re-shape the curved sections as these often deform when being removed and are then a loose fit on the battery's tab

The gell prevents moisture getting to the connection. Petroleum jelly ( Vaselene ) does the job quite well if the battery is not exposed to severe weather for long periods of time. ( in which case the battery should be in a protective case.

Could it be heat shrink?

This needs a close up photo to be sure.

Could it even be as simple as the plastic covers over the crimps, they can often be clear.
OR just silicone or hot melt glue - used to keep the connections held fast.
