I have been looking at 13 amp single ovens which can be plugged into a normal socket. The one I like (a Bosch) says in the installation info '13 amp. Requires professional installation'. All the others say 'fitted (or supplied) with 13 amp plug. So why is the Bosch different? What would the installer have to do (fit a plug?) Would my house insurance be invalidated if I didn't use an electrician?

If it’s a UK appliance, supplied with a 13A plug you just plug it in, to a suitable socket.
Just like you would a kettle, for instance.
Just ignore the “professional installation “ malarkey. Many manufacturers instructions aren’t the best, these days.

No. Anyone can do electrical work. Fitting a plug to an appliance is not notifiable.

Selling a plug in appliance without a plug fitted is illegal.
