Does the 17th edition only apply to new builds or modifications aswell ?

Scenario 1 - A customer wants new lights in their bathroom & the switch moved. Would you just have to make sure the Supplementary bonding is present or involve the use of an RCD?

Scenario 2 - A customer wants some new wall lights in their lounge & their existing lighting circuit is not on an RCD. What would you do ?

Scenario 3 - A customer wants an electric hob & oven connected to the existing CCU (no socket) & the wiring is possibly less than 50mm from the surface but in a safe zone, but its not on the RCD side. What do you do ?

I've ordered my new RED book, but still slightly confused

Cheers

If #1 or #2 result in you installing new concealed cables then the regulations seem pretty clear that you'd need to put an RCD on the circuit, or use a sheathed cable.

Or document your departure from BS 7671 on the MWC....

#3 just leave it as it is.

Feel free to make the IET uncomfortable by asking the Q on their site - I really don't think they thought through the ramifications of this daft change.

OK, I'll try it. Low posts so might get some abuse.... lol
