2, 3, or 4 pair telephone cable

Hi I am rewiring the house, and running a telephone cable in at the same time. I am not sure which one to buy.

2 pair 6 core
3 pair 6 core
4 pair 6 core

Is there a benefit to different pairs. Price isn't really a big issue. Only a couple of quid difference between the lot.

Do you have a link to these?
Is 2 pair not 4 core, 3 pair 6 core, and 4 pair 8 core?
For most telephone applications a 2 pair will do.

I always carry 4 pair (8 core if you like), and use this for most of my comms wiring.

It makes sence to have spare pairs.

What ever you do, do not cut the spare cores out, keep them a decent length and coil them in the back of the back box.

I now see why the different pairings. I think i will have the spare cores and go for the 4 pair 8 core.
