In theory and practice it will work.
It will however cause automated line tests to indicate that the line is longer than it really it is.
It could also cause issues with any ADSL on the line.

You trying to increse REN values that wont work.
If your trying to avoid more internal wiring bring in the drop line above put a slave behind it, use one pair to the sockets upstairs then the spare pair back and take that downstairs, keeping the daisy chain operating.
