2 Channel smart controller to combi boiler

I am having a discussion with a heating engineer who is suggesting that I might want a 2 channel controller to manage my heating "And hot water" on my combi boiler. I am struggling to understand why I would want to set times or even on / off for a combi boiler for hot water can anyone help me understand?
Are there combi boilers out there where controlling the hot water makes sense when its not going to a storage tank or the likes?

Would be useful to know the make & model of your boiler. Some can have the pre-heat on a timer

Generally you’d need a single channel, bu5 as per @muggles would be helpful to know what make/model is.

As above make/model
If its a oil combi you have to time hot water.
