2 lights working independently from the same switch

I have 2 lights in a new room that have been connected to a dimmer switch so that when the switch is operated they work together. I actually wanted these to work so I could dim each light independently. Obviously this will require some rewiring - but is this a big job and would it mean the newly plastered walls would be disturbed?

It would need another cable running to the switch and a bit of a rewire at the lights
