Iknow quite a few people with degrees of one sort or an other and extremely cleaver but they had no commonsence (sure thats spelt wrong)

Common sense is the word (or words, rather). First he didn't realise that firing up the boiler would back-feed to both pumps, f*rted around for a while fitting relays to isolate them, switched to MVs and still had a back circulation problem to the rads when the H/W was on. Eventually I pointed out that he'd now spent more than if he'd gone for a straight Y plan. I made an excuse, and left.
