2 slimlines 1spur

Hi Chaps,
Got two 400w 3A slimline panel heaters and would like to wire into one switched fused connector unit.
Can I do this?
What size fuse, and do I put the new fuse into the one 13A unit I am proposing to use for the job.

Info would be appreciated.

Considering that an electric fire can be 3kw on a 13a fuse you have no problem with 800w

besides the physical limitations of a fused spur only having one flex outlet point?
and the fact that you wouldn't have independant isolation for them?

why 2 slimline 400W heaters?

why not a single larger 800W heater?

tiny room, 400w was the biggest slimline available in range of 30mm total depth out from wall, Do I need seperate isolation for them - unless one malfunctions?

That's a no then.

800W is more than 3A, and as the manufacturers will not permit a bigger fuse, you need each heater supplied from it's own FCU with a 3A fuse.

Fair point, but have bought the blighters now. 600mm2, gonna put one above the other on a wall, apparently pretty environmental, just wanted to reduce the number of switches on the wall. If that nots going to happen then I will have to have 2?

Why not spur off the supply side of the switched fcu to the next panel heater, incorporating a switched fcu there. 800w from one fcu at 3A is not good. Ib and In and all that.

You really shouldn't mount heaters above one another.

They work by convection, taking cold air in at the bottom, and it rises out of the top.

If you site a heater directly above another, it will be taking in hot air, and trying to heat it again, which will cause the heater to over heat.

This will cause the thermal safety cutout to operate, isolating the heater, and it may damage the heater internals too.

Side by side would be ok.

So still gonna end up with 2 switches somewhere on the wall?

One over the other isn't an option then, side by side might work.. but prob. go back to the plan of one on either side of the room, 13A FCUs, do i swap out the fuses with 3A?

The requirements are above and beyond esthetics. 3A fuses in each fcu.
