2 way Switching

Hey this might sound silly, but I'am doing a project and would like to no what 2 way switches are, I would appreciate it if you could supply me with some information, as I'am new to the subject.

see the for reference top of this forum, it shows how they are wired.

but basically it has three connections aranged in a triangle Top (C) L1 and L2 at the bottom

there is a connection between C an L1 or L2 depnding on which way the switch is, when its pressed it changes from L1 to L2
