I am installing 240 volt lights on my drive and would like them to be switched on by a PIR at each end of the drive. This needs to be able to incorporate 2 PIRs in the same circuit and I have been unable to find any way to do this (including talking to a fully qualified electricianI,

Is it possible and if so how?

Each PIR operates a relay (contactor). Relay contacts in parallel operate the light.

it's as simple as running a 4 core ( 3+earth ) cable between each PIR..
there will be 4 connections inside the PIR..
Live in
Neutral
Earth
Switched live.

live in , neutral and earth from whatever source you're picking up a feed from, then the 4 core link between, and switched live, neutral and earth to the light..

simples..

You can do it like this

or use wireless PIRs like this http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/STFS300B.html

I suggested relays as there is at least one example somewhere on the forum of someone having a problem connecting the two PIRs together - they kept mutually re-triggering each other's timers and the light never turned off.

This may or may not be a problem for you depending on the design of the PIRs.

Thanks for your comments.

Unfortunately I only have a 3-core (L/N/E) armoured cable already buried under my drive.

Seems I am too late to achieve the 2 x PIRs configuration.

Whats wrong with using the armour as CPC then you have your L/SL/N.
As long as it is correctly terminated and tests ok.

what's the colours of your 3 core SWA?
should be brown / black / grey ( or the older red / yellow / blue if it was put in a long time ago.. )..
if it is brown, blue and green/yellow then it's special order stuff isn't it?
