2001 mitsubishi shogun 3.2 di-d help

IM looking for some help with a 2001 mitsubishi shogun 3.2 di-d , when the motor is driving it seems to be getting fuel starvation and is sucking the top of the manual lift pump down .

Anyone no what the problem could be.

Blocked fuel tank vent? when this occurs, try removing the fuel filler cap, is there a hissing noise?

blocked fuel filter may cause the same too, but it think wotan is on the right lines

Its a new fuel filter that on it and theres no hissing when the tank cap is released.

In that case, take the fuel sender unit out and check for partial blockage in the dip leg of the unit.
