22mm compression elbow

i have just cut through a 22mm pipe cos i want to divert it another direction but when i put on the 22mm compression elbow it just slid off into my hand . the olive included. is old copper tubing smaller than new and do i need a specific compression joint or similar thanks

Use a 22mm joint and a 3/4" olive (these are easily available).
