I have a Vaillant Turbomax VUW 242E and the timer does not work. What I can i do to get this to work?

No idea about your specific model but most timers have a standard backplate, all you do is buy a new timer, unscrew the two screws on the bottom of your existing one, pull out from the bottom and push up. Fit your new one in the reverse of removal and it should work.

Will this cost a lot to do and do we have to have a plumber to fix this or can anyone?

HI... they cost betweem £40-£50 and anyone can do the job as long as they have means to test that the boiler is correctly isolated from the electricity supply before any work is done. If you get someone in expect to pay approx £100.
