It just goes to show how the Police can get it hopelessly wrong and that chap as well as others has been jailed wrongly.

It just goes to show that the death penalty should never be reintroduced as a good many has probably been hung wrongly! :(

I wonder how much they will deduct off his compensation for his board and lodging!!!!!!!

He may well want to return back 'inside' when he see's for himself the state of the country !!!

Why the Police Bahco?. It wasn't them that convicted him. It wasn't them that prosecuted him. They put together the facts, let the barristers present the case and let the jury of 12 members of the public like you decide on his guilt.

Quote from the article . "But at the end of a 15-day trial, the jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict having deliberated for only 3½ hours."

Since then there have been three legal reviews into his case, not involving the Police, and all came up with the result that the conviction was safe.

The guy went in and confessed to it.
Ok he was mental but it was not beaten out of him

given that DNA evidence is now more or less indisputable, then the death penalty for new cases should absolutely be bought back..

if there were harsher punishments for crimes then they wouldn't be commited..

caught doing 100 on the motorway - banned for 4 jears, 2 years in jail and your nice fancy car crushed,,
pre-meditated murder - death penalty, method chosen by victims family or public vote..
caught stealing - cut off a finger..
rape - cut off..... well you get the idea..

I kinda like your harsh albeit slightly chilling suggestions. However, i'd put a stop to this mindless crushing of cars - it such a waste, auction them off for charity.

I seriously think that some would-be criminals may well sit down, weigh up the worst case scenario if they got caught and take a conscious decision that its worth the risk because the punishment isn't that bad. Obviously it'd have to be a conviction that was beyond doubt.

DNA evidence may well be very accurate (not 100%) but it hardly consitutes the whole facts of the case now does it.

Eg. your DNA may be found at the scene of a crime, but does it necessarily mean you're implicated, No.

Its far easier to set someone up using thier DNA .
Than with say fingerprints at seen of crime

you have the victims blood on you, they have scrapings of your skin under their nails, your fingerprints are on the knife...

pretty open and shut I'd say..

do identical twins share the exact same DNA??

that is the only case I could see as being difficult..

The victim staggered towards you bleeding heavily, as they collapsed, grasping wildly at you, you instinctively put your hands out to hold them up, in doing so inadvertently touching the knife. You may not think that is likely, but is it possible?

Fair play, I should have said Our Legal System which does not always get it right and there has been a lot of innocent people jailed or worse for something they were innocent of.

This is not a police bashing thread.

sharia law it is then! :?

The more disturbing thing for me is that for 27 years, the real c**t who did it has walked about free, knowing that (s)he has not only killed someone but also that an innocent person has been punished for it :? For this, it is hard to remain civilised and not pine for the death penalty to be used should the real perp be caught. The w****r
