I only have a 60 amp supply to my house, so electric heating and cooling is not really an option for more than one room, but 28 sec gas oil is not that much different to tractor vaporising oil (TVO) so can you get an oil powered air source heat pump? And if so how noisy?

I would think a Sterling engine would be favourite, or are they now called ECE since we call internal combustion engines ICE? And they could be multi fuel without much of a problem. But do they exist?

What is the house heating demand?, A nominally 15kw air to air Heat pump will have ~ a 3.75kw motor so single phase will draw ~ 19.6A at a power factor of 0.85, if its a variable speed unit then start up currenr should be low, you may be able to get larger single phase units, ask the manufacturers.
