2g dimmer to 2g switch issue

I have searched previous posts and can't seem to find the answer so hopefully someone can enlighten me as to what might be the issue here.
I have a 2g dimmer where one switch controlled a ceiling light and the other a pair of wall lights.
I want rid of the dimmer so replaced it with a 2g 2way normal light switch; just wire it in exactly the same way as the dimmer I thought!
I did that and one of the switches controlling the ceiling light works fine but the other does nothing and my wall lights are on permanently regardless of the position of either switch.
I took pics of the dimmer wiring before disconnecting so I know that I placed them in the exact same terminals in the new switch.
Probably end up refitting the old dimmer for now and get a spark in but I am curious as to why this may happen so if anyone could please shed some general light on it I'd be grateful.

The side with the yellow cable controlled the ceiling light

The Live connects to both COM terminals

Switched Live 1 connects to L1 in one switch
Switched Live 2 connects to L1 in the second switch

One dimmer is upside down compared to the other

The new switch may have both switches the same way up

Yes the new 2g switch did have each switch the same way up but I ensured that I took account of that by connecting the cables to the identically labelled terminals as the dimmer switch.
When I get home later I'll remove the wall switch and double check and take a pic of that too.
Must be something simple.

check the cables are actually in the connector and screw is on the bare wire , NOT the insulation
Also what is the Black/blue connection - is that still connected OK and not disturbed

Do you have a multimeter ?

Check the dimmer is not kaput by putting both switch wires in contact with the common. If they come on, it is either a connection fault or a faulty dimmer module.
