3 way mid-point valve stuck not moving

Hi Guys

Newbie here, I have been reading various posts on 3 way mid-point valves and have started to become more familar with them from searching the net, due to the issues I have inherited since movnig home last week.

Ok here's my scenario...

When HW is programmed to come on, I get HW and CH on.
When CH is programmed to come on, I get nothing.

I've looked high and low and various online help, and have confirmed that thermostats etc are all woring as desired, and come across the 3 way mid-point valve!!

The mid-point valve seems to be stuck on M, and when activating the HW or CH (plus demand for heat) no movement from the the valve. So my detective work has brought me to thinking motor failure, that sound right?

Is there anything else I should be looking at here, or would you recommend replacing the motor?

I got this far late last night and my short attempt to remove the (awkward to get at) cover off the actuator(after isoloaction) was unsuccessful, one screw and obvioulsy a nack to removing possibly, unless someone can direct me on how to remove the cover, I shall attempt to look again this evening?

their are two types 5 wire and 3 wire

can you post a pic of your valve or tell us

is the head metal or plastic and what colour

So just a new motor right? If I manage to get the damn case off tonight, will I be able to see if 3/5 wire?

Ah yeh!

Britich Gas, BGMVSP23 which I believe is a Drayton. Its got a blue plastic cover.

It has one screw at one end, oposite end which is difficult to acces has black lever which seems pretty floppy and inaffective. front side is the setting stuck on M and the opposite side is anothe black clip that runs underneath that seems to be able to squeeze but didnt release??? Hope that helps

just turn the power off to the boiler all off
open the plastic boxs where wire goes to open that up and you can tell
is it metal or plastic as gas said

So are you talking actuator or motor? I was thinking just the motor will need replcaing not the actuator, do you think differently?

Don't bother with faffing around replacing the motor. Those heads are removable and its far easier just to latch a new one on to the brass body.
Check for free movement of the spindle. If you are not confident going onto the wiring centre then just use a 5 terminal in line connector..

So on further inspection tonight with the help of the Mrs, the lever is moving when CH/HW is switched but very minimal, it just moves across the M doesnt actually move to H or W.

Just want to know if that changes anything, is it still the motor/actutor thats the problem?
