3 way valve - mid point divertor

Hi Guys,

I have a Baxi Solo 30 that feeds both the CH and HW (via a tank in the airing cupboard).

There is a 3-way valve on the system that should go to mid-point when the HW and CH are both called at the same time. (Programmable timer in the kitchen and honeywell thermostat in the hallway).

A while ago the Synchron motor ceased(sp?) in the 3 way valve (Siemens is the manufacturer of the valve).

I got a replacement synchron but subsequently found that the gearing cog on the "new model" synchron sell was shortened and no longer reached to active the valve.

After speaking to Synchron (who confirmed they'd made this change) I then purchased a new head unit from plumb center with mid-point (upsetting considering the cost of a synchron motor - but i digress).

I checked the model numbers and the old model (head unit) and the new model are the same - i took it with me to plumb centre to make sure.

Sadly the system will now either do HW or CH but if the system calls for "both" then it just moves over fully and feeds the CH.

The valve then stays energized until both the CH and HW "call" are no longer sent by the timer unit (i.e. if the call for CH is ceased it still stays where it was if the HW is still called).

Obviously this means that i can't have the timer overlapping for the H/W and C/H otherwise it doesn't heat the hot water tank.

If anyone can give me an idea of what to look at i'd be most appreciative.
Allowing for my slightly vague post and lack of pictures.

cheers,

if it was all ok before synchron packed in i would suggest you've wired it up wrong

The new head unit means there was nothing to wire up (as it came with a synchron in it).

The head plugs into a tri pin socket on the valve base - and you can't plug it in backwards based on the "nick" in the plug.

I was going to wire the synchron replacement into the old head unit but didn't bother once i realised it would not reach.
It is currently sat in my drawer gathering dust.

I take your point on it sounds like an electrical fault and my first post is probably not clear enough.

My suspicion is when it ceased up it did something to the control box in the kitchen (but i'm surprised it works for HW / CH when just one or the other is in use) and hence my confusion.

cheers for the reply.
