We have a 3 wire overhead power supply to our house. It stretches overhead across our garden.

Our neighbor has the new style single cable shielded type for his power supply.

How can i get it changed free of charge to the new type?
What causes the need for an upgrade by the supplier?

i have had it looked at for safety and was told it was fit for purpose, even thought live and neutral rubber coating is perished in parts.
Engineer said there are many 3 line supply's with no shielding in use.

What's your reason for wanting a replacement?

All you can do is hope it blows down in the wind.

i am getting some roof work done. Some roofers want full isolation.
Some roofers are willing to do the work without isolation.

i assume the single wire is much safer.

I was hoping that there would be something that would prompt an upgrade.

The 3 wires actually split of to me neighbor house also.(on other side)

Who looked at it?

Tell the DNO about the proposed work and they should fit additional shrouding whilst it is done.

As you have been told there are millions of supplies like this and unless deemed unsafe by the DNO they will remain in use.

DNO safety looked at it.

They are supposed too come back and fit a single wall clip lol

Thought there may have been a way to prompt an update of the 3 line overhead cables.

Half the houses in our row have new cables, other half do not.
