Do I take it that you are talking about 160A at 12 volts? If so, and ignoring losses/inefficiencies, that's not much over 8A at 230V - i.e. similar to a fan heater or many a toaster, so not a problem.
I've only once known the local DNO refuse to allow the connection of equipment, but that was for an 800A per phase glass furnace. We have just submitted forms to hopefully gain permission to connect a load of refrigeration/climate control equipment to the supply for a local factory. We frequently contact them for various things, they are always helpful. Meter companies on the other hand are best avoided...
