38W 2d light colour

So I got a nice new light fitting off the interweb, with a 38W 2d fitting.
Looks great, till I turned it on. The light is a funny colour, sort of bluey. More like being in an operating theatre, or "close encounters".

Strangely it seems very much like daylight, which at night looks most odd.
Now the missus is saying can't we just swap it for a 11W pendant fitting?

Can you get different colour 38W 2d lamps or am I a fool?

You can get different colour temp lamps.

Is this a high frequency unit? Sometimes when these fail they cause the lamps to operate oddly - either giving a pinky or a bluey colour instead.

What is written on the actual lamp itself?
 
Some low energy lamps seem to start off a colder, bluer colour than they end up - you might find after a few hours use the light has calmed down a bit. You can get them in "white" and "warm white" from Osram, although your definition of warm might differ from theirs.
 
As Lectrician says, get the code of the lamp

38 w 2d normally

827, 830 warmwhite
835 white
840 coolwhite
aprox 860 will be daylight

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, so I understand.

I was really angling for some feedback from a person with some experience of lighting, intensities, colours etc etc. Rather than a lengthy in-depth study of the lighting spectrum and trying to correlate the figures Rocky has mentioned with K figures from a graph.

However, as I mentioned, the colour is very bluey, and quite like daylight.
If I was to change this to a yellower light (but still 38W), would it be as bright as the current one, or will it appear dimmer?
 
Most lamp makers now drop the 00 off the K number.
6400 K usually comes up as 864 on 2D lamps.
So that is around Daylight as you thought.

2700k bit reddy
3500K or 835 would be adequate for most people.
4000k nice but sometimes too much, go in tescos there ceiling lights are 4000k tubes

The 8 is just the phosphor coating which most 2d lamps use nowadays.

Seems odd they'd supply a lamp with such a high K value.
I'll try to get hold of a more earthly K value one.
