iv just moved into my house and noticed that my electric show is burning out!! help.... i only have a 4.mm cable coming in on a 40a fuse... what rating shower can i have?? 6kw?? if so can u get them that low?? i can only find 7.2kw??

Are you sure you have 4mm²?

What route does it take?
If you suspect burning then do not use the shower until you have it and the circuit supplying it thoroughly checked out by a competant electrician.
The MAXIMUM that 4mm² can handle clipped direct is 36A (this is without any correction factors applied.)
This would need 32A protection (MCB or cartridge fuse) and give you 7.68KW @ 240V.

4mm² could carry a 7.2kW, depending on route & length...

Curses!!
iv opened the shower up, and the live wire coming into the shower is buring... it has stuck to the casing of the shower and has started buring the plastic... im not sure what rating the current shower is.. the current cable length is about 8m and is in between ground floor cieling and first floor... wouldnt b a problem but i was stupid and first thing i did when i moved in was to do new floors upstairs and new ceilings downstairs b4 i checked the electrics... so i dont really want 2 change the wiring, but do need an electric shower??? do u think i could try a 7.2kw???

4mm twin and earth is rated at 37A (7.4kW) if it is clipped directly onto a wall so that 3 sides of it are exposed to the cooling effects of the surrounding air. If it is enclosed in a wall or conduit the rating plummets to 26-27A (6.1kW).
I would strongly recommend that you replace this with 6mm (8kW) or evn 10mm (10.8kW).
I have never seen a shower with a rating less than 7kW.
