Hello I recently tiled a kitchen wall using above tiles which have a very rough face to them, I am looking for any tips/hints on how best to grout them as I fear it will be difficult to prevent grout filling the natural grooves and ridges of the tile.

Seal them first, very important.

I'd be using a wdie joint mix for this with just a small amount of wall grout mixed in say 70/30.

BAL wide Joint 70%
BAL wall grout 30%

You can either grout as normal and was as you go, or get a pointing gun and gun it in. (like a mastic gun that you fill with grout).

Personally I'd grout int he normal way and once the grout starts to go off, use an emulsifying pad to clean as much of the slate surface as possible.

(that's a big plastic pan scourer between you and me)
