6 more long weeks of winter

I wouldn't have the time. And I deffo have not got the inclination. That plot needs love, right there.

I'd make time.

Plus, you only cut grass when the weather's nice, so it is a good way to spend productive time outdoors.

Although 200ft of 8ft privet made my shoulders ache like Hell (which is why I only did them a couple or three times a year)...........

We did a job for a lady a few years back, whereby she had a corner plot along with 60m of hedge!

She paid £25'000 for us to rip out the hedge and build her a wall. I fully get that. I also get why people would prefer the hedge.

You could have swept up afterwards.

Apart from the maintenance aspect, they have major plus points IMO:

- they look better than walls
- hedgehogs can pass through them, and birdies live in them
- you can string Christmas lights through them
- if established, and properly shaped and with a little bit of looking-after, they don't fall down in a strong wind (like fence panels do).

Jeez, the birds really don't like the person hitting that bag.

Yeah I get that. She had 20 years of looking after the hedge, most of that time, single handed. She's also a NHS nurse that is not afraid of long shifts.
Lovely person, but that hedge just got the better of her.

I actually came up with a plan for the fence section. I had a local engineering company (Tamworth Steels) make me some cranked steel posts, to support the fence. These were essentially bolted to the foundation concrete but also gained lateral strength from the dwarf wall, you can just about se the angle brackets...
