70s interior glass screen replacement

Evening everyone.....we have a glass screen between our lounge and hall in good old 1970s style! It's about 3' x 5' so not too big but makes the room look dated.....any ideas of what to do with it.
At the moment I've considered plasterboarding it but my skimming technique isn't hat good! Also replacing the glass for something more updated than the ripple style we have there but it might look odd in a 1970s house to have something really modern.
Any ideas please gratefully received
