A car 'accessory' I just can't do without

I think I might have read somewhere in the handbook that it does, indeed, obtain that information from radio stations.

I used to have a Tomtom with a "traffic" receiver that picked up signals from transmitters. That form of tech seems to be obsolete now, and newer satnavs make an IP connection with some kind of SIM.

I also have a car with a factory-fitted satnav, it cost a fortune and is not as good as an £80 portable you can buy today from Aldi, or your smartphone. It does automatically offer to direct you to the nearest petrol station, though, if it detects your fuel is running low. Some of them have the ability to make an "emergency! Help!" call with your location if they detect a crash.

Our VW Golf SE NAV supposedly does that.

The only problem is that I can't get it to work!

The DAB update would make sense as our TomTom updated itself without being connected to either the WiFi or Mobile network.
