We have an old victorian 200 year old house. The kitchen is an extension built in the 1980s and there is a stanley on the wall adjoining the old part of the house. On the other side of this wall in the dining room is a fantastic old fireplace which has been blocked up and is a feature. I want to open up this fireplace and use it, preferably with a log burner. We had a guy out who used to live in the house and who actually blocked the fire place. He says that the stanley is using the existing chimney and that it is impossible to open this up to put an extra flue in because of the insulation (perlite I think he's used). I am trying to get a second opinion but without much joy where we live tradesmen tend to avoid trade! But if I know that it is possible to open up the chimney to put in an extra flue to accommodate the fire alongside the flue for the stanley then I would go through the yellow pages to find someone. Any advice would be great thanks.
